Rotherham deadline given extension

Rotherham United have been given another week to save themselves.
Last night £60,000 was handed over to the club's accounts from shareholders in Rotherham United Supporters Trust (RUST). The sum donated included the money from Rotherham United Supporters Club (RUSC) as well as the general donations from supporters of other football clubs.

Mark Thomas, acting chairman of the trust in the absence of Craig Saunderson, said: "Time is short but is a precious commodity in the club's current situation and it means there will be more time. I spoke with Trevor Smallwood and he made it clear that if RUST members agreed to the £60,000 being transferred into the club's funds, then the club would be in a position to trade until March 31"

"It means a little longer for discussions to continue with interested parties and that is important. It's a bit longer for a rescue plan to be put together. I believe there are people with a genuine and very real desire to save the club. We at RUST have been involved in discussions about our own plans but I cannot say anything further because of the need to preserve confidentiality."

The news is a boost both for Walsall and Rotherham. Should Rotherham be wound up before this season is over Walsall will lose six points. This is more than the teams aound us and we would be left with a huge up hill battle to retain our own League One status.

One of the fundraing events sees Rotherham fans doing a sponsored walk from Millmoor to Huddersfieds Gulpharm Stadium in time for Saturdays League One fixture. They will set out at 3am!!! for the trip in what is sure to be chilly conditions!

Good luck lads and lasses!!
