Last updated : 02 August 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
Rochdale have announced the loan signing of young goalkeeper Lewis Edge. Signed from Blackpool the keeper has been loaned out to League Two, in order for him to gain more experience.
The 19-year-old signed his first professional deal with the Seasiders earlier this summer. His stay at Spotland is expected to last until January 10, but Blackpool have a recall clause in the deal.

Lewis has only three first team matches to his name. He made his debut on the last day of the 2003/4 season. He was 16 year of age and kept goal in the 2-1 away defeat at Bristol City. The following season he was called into action covering for injury in the 1-0 home FA Cup defeat against Leicester City. Last season Lewis was restricted to one substitute appearance, coming off the bench in the 1-1 draw at Yeovil.
The keeper will face competition from 23 year old Matthew Gilkes for the Rochdale goalkeeping jersey. Gilkes was an ever present last season and has made 143 starts for the club and must be considered the favourite to star on Saturday, if fit.
