Peterborough United have secured a £3 million sponsorship deal with MRI Overseas Property, the company owned by Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony. It will run for two seasons and is the biggest shirt sponsorship deal in the history of the Football League.

MacAnthony told his club's official site www.theposh.com: 'The sponsorship deal is the largest in the history of the Football League and is on a par with many Premiership teams. We have signed a deal for £3 million over two seasons with MRI Overseas Property.

'This deal will enable our club to bring in new players and improve both on and off the field. From a commercial point of view, it is a massive deal to sign and of course it will help stabilise the finances of the football club. I am sure it will send a tremor in the football world and show that we mean business and want to reach the Premier League.

Obviously MRI Overseas Property are one of my companies and it was a difficult conversation I had with myself with regards to the sponsorship! We are the biggest sellers of overseas property and for us, this gives us a big profile. Peterborough will always be in the media and that is obviously a big plus for the company.'
