Oldham fail in audacious bid for ex-Liverpool, Portsmouth and Villa Star

Last updated : 22 June 2007 By Andy Van Hagen
Oldham Athletic have claimed to have failed in their audacious bid to bring Aston Villa's Patrik Berger to Boundary Park.

They have confirmed their attempts of trying to bring the former Czech Republic international to the club on loan after reports that Villa boss Martin O'Neill was happy to let Berger go out on loan.

The surprise in this story is Berger has just signed a new one year deal at Villa Park after having had a strong ending to last season. He is a popular figure with the Premiership club's fans and is seen as their best attempt to replace the creative void left after Paul Merson's departure.
