On the morning football clubs around the country were making silly April Fool announcements, Huddersfield Town revealed manager Andy Ritchie had left the club by mutual consent. This was no April fool.

Ritchie was just approaching a year in the job and leaves as they prepare for their centenary season. Sitting in 14th place in League One, Chairman Ken Davy said: "The reality is that, despite an increased spend and new signings, we have not progressed as we hoped this season."

Director of football development Gerry Murphy has been put in caretaker charge while a successor is recruited.
