Ince, 38, cited 'personal reasons' for the decision. It is believed that the travelling to and from his Chester home is the major force behind the decision.
Ince will continue his coaching role alongside Swindon boss Dennis Wise. Ince is currently studying for his coaching badges and needs the experience to pass the course.
Ince made two starts and one substitute appearance for the League Two side.
