Macclesfield Town have annouced that Ray Mathias has joined the club as full time Assistant Manager to Player Manager Paul Ince.

Paul Ince has separated himself from a number of late 90's, former England internationals who have become new managers by announcing an assistant with a wealth of experiece to draw from. Not just management experience but also what might be crutial in their survival campaign -League Two experience.

Mathias began his managerial experience at Wigan Athletic in 1986 where he took charge of 142 matches, 59 of which he won and 50 lost. After departing, he returned for a second spell and Wigan won 32 of 62 games, losing just 17 and drawing 13.

In August 2002 he managed Tranmere where he achieved a record of winning 29 out of 66 games and losing 19.

He has also managed Chester City in a caretaker capacity and served Bury as Assistant Manager.
