The league leaders looked dead and buried at 3-0 down, but Andy Monkhouse and Richie Barker (2) hit back in a breath-taking game. Jason Taylor missed a late Stockport County spot-kick, while Barker also hit the bar at the other end in the 82nd minute. After a fairly uneventful opening quarter of the game at Edgeley Park, Stockport then produced three quick goals in ten minutes to stun the league leaders. On 24 minutes Ben Clark clumsily tripped Hatters striker Liam Dickinson in the box and Adam Le Fondre coolly beat Dimi Konstantopoulos from the spot. Just four minutes later Anthony Elding made it 2-0 as he hooked home a smart shot following Dickinson's smart header on. That was Elding's eighth goal in County colours since his January switch from Boston. Dickinson then made it 3-0 as he raced on to a cross from Le Fondre to fire home clinically from just six yards. The home side and their fans were buoyant, but Hartlepool gave themselves a lifeline on 38 minutes as Monkhouse fired home an angled drive to pull it back to 3-1. In first-half stoppage time Stockport keeper Wayne Hennessey produced a breath-taking diving save to keep out James Brown's rasping 25-yard drive. Another penalty allowed Hartlepool to make it 3-2 on 47 minutes as Barker fired home from the spot following Dickinson's push on Michael Nelson. Barker then levelled things up on 65 minutes with a smart finish on the turn. |
