Hartlepool sign new striker

Hartlepool United have signed 24 year old striker Michael Mackay from Arngrove Northern league outfit Consett.

Mackay had been attracting interest from several football league teams but Hartlepool won the race to sign up the in-demand young striker. Mackay has an extremely impressive goal scoring record. He leads this season's Northern League Division One scoring charts with 43, yes 43 goals!!!

He moved to Consett from Durham City in 2005 where he scored 30 goals. He added another 11 for his new team that season to end the campaign with 41 goals. This shows he has a real eye for a goal but the question is can recreate this form in the Football League?

We ourselves have recent experience of signing a highly rated non-league striker. However for one reason or another we never really gave him the chance to prove his worth. I don't think their was a doubt he could score a goal but it was questionable about his all-round game.

Mackay will be in contention for a place in the squad when league leaders We visit the Victoria Ground on Saturday. He will face tough competition from Richie Barker, Effion Williams and James Brown.
