Gillingham involved in another bizarre transfer story

Last updated : 09 March 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
The loan move of Brent Sancho from Gillingham to Swansea City has fallen through after Swansea learnt that they would have to re-apply for the Trinidad and Tobago's work permit.

The application would see Sancho unable to play for Swansea before March 25th. Added on to this Gillingham did not want Sancho to play in the fixture against themselves. This meant the defender was unable to play in a minimum of 4 of the last 12 remaining fixtures this season.

Paul Scally (the Gillingham Chairman) said he was furious with Swansea for "reneging" on the proposed two-month deal. He said "We will not get caught out again in any further dealings with them. We had agreed a deal with Swansea that would have seen Brent join them on loan. But they now want to renege on that deal and quite frankly I'm furious with them for not honouring their word."

Rather ironic that seeing Gillingham pulled out of the agreement to sign Paul Smith on January 1st!!!

Live by the sword, die by the sword. What goes around, comes around. You cant have it both ways Mr.Scally!

The player has returned to Gillingham with immediate effect.
