Nijholt spent between 1993 and 1995 in Swindon Town midfield; and in 2005 he was assistant to Luis Van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar, who reached the Uefa Cup semi-final.
"I have some great memories of Swindon. The fans were always brilliant, the ground was always sold out and I would love to return as manager." he told BBC sport.
