Double demotion for Boston

Boston United have been demoted a league into the Conference North after Conference chiefs met over the weekend in Bournemouth.

The demotion follows United's failure to present evidence of their entry into a CVA late last season. Both the Football League and Conference refused to confirm United's position until such information was presented.

The situation was thought to have been settled after United were takenover by Standing Alone Limited, which paved the way for the club to start a fresh in the former Conference, now known as the Blue Square Premier League.

However the AGM in Bournemouth brought a different results than anticipated and this meant Boston are now demoted to the Conference North for believed financial reasons.

Conference chief John Moules is quoted in Sunday 10th June's Non-League Paper as saying.

"Boston are in breach of certain rules, it was felt Blue Square North was the best place for them. We are under a confidentiality agreement, as are Boston, and are not allowed to discuss them. We had meetings all day on Friday with Boston United and then informed Altrincham that they were staying up."

United have yet to respond to the demotion and it is not yet known if they will appeal. Although, things could get even more complicated!!

Worksop Town who were demoted from last season's Conference South to the Unibond Premier have signalled their intent on contesting the decision. Their Chairman Howard Raymond told the Non-League Paper: "The Conference rules must cover all three leagues, and we will be asking our lawyers to study this closely and will almost certainly lodge an appeal."

In the unlikely event of this being a success, Boston would then be playing in the Unibond, with Worksop bein re-instated.
