The Daily Star has written former Walsall Manager Richard Money is one of the favourites to become the new manager at Crewe, a club who he was believed to have forged links with while at Walsall.

The Crewe board met on Thursday to discuss the managerial vacancy and whilst no quick announcement is expected, the now Newcastle Academy Director is expected to feature on a shortlist.

The new Crewe manager will be expected to continue a history of strong youth development which obviously puts Money in the frame following youth development roles at Coventry and Aston Villa prior to Newcastle and the introduction of youngsters at Walsall.

It is believed that 'Dicky Dosh' has a clause in his contract which allows him to leave if a managerial vacancy crops up which appeals to him and the timing could be perfect with academy football taking it's Christmas break after matches on Saturday 13th December.

Other candidates who have been linked to the job include Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough and John Ward.
