Colchester United have appointed former Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd as their new boss, replacing Paul Lambert who left for League One rivals Norwich City last month.

Boothroyd had been out of work since leaving Championship side Watford by mutual consent in November 2008 following just 12 wins in 48 games. Prior to that he guided Watford to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2006, and following relegation took them to an FA Cup semi-final the following year.
