Chesterfield defender Hazel out for the season

Chesterfield have been rocked by the news that central defender Reuben Hazel will probably miss the rest of the season with a broken bone in his foot.

The ex- Aston Villa and Kidderminster man issued a 'come and get me' plea to Paul Merson at the start of the season when he was available on a Bosman. Walsall declined and the player was snapped up by Roy McFarland at Chesterfield. At the time Walsall had a wealth of central defenders and we didnt have a need for another one.

Hazel has had a great season being a virtual ever present in a Chesterfield side who have looked to make a play-off push. He took a few games to settle into his new surroundings but has not looked back since.

Reuben Hazell (Chesterfield) appearances
Appearances 30 (* + 2 as sub); Goals 0; Yellow cards 4; Red cards 0

The Chesterfield manager Roy McFarland has said it will give a chance to a kid or two, to get first team experience but the loss of the central defender will be a big loss to the club.
