Boston players can't train!

Boston United's players are unable to train, because they cannot afford to get to training sessions ahead of their "do or die" last day match with Wrexham.

Manager Steve Evans has told their official site www.bufc.co.uk he may not be able to hold training sessions because his players, now 12 weeks without pay, simply cannot afford petrol:

"I am not sure how many players will train this week as some of them have simply run out of money and cannot therefore travel into the training ground. I feel for us all after being put in this situation, but we have a week left to fight and I am going to make sure we all do that."

Evans added:

It looks like we will travel to Wrexham with only eight professionals and a number of youth team players but if that is what we have to do, then we get on with it. The most important thing is that the Football League select an experienced match referee and not someone who will be swayed by a large and vocal home support."

Premiership referee Mark Helsey has been given the job of taking part of the vital game at The Racecourse.

Meanwhile Boston's assistant manager Paul Raynor has added his comments to the situation onto the club's official site, including how they plan to to get their EIGHT fit professionals in for a training session at the end of the week:

Full credit must also be given to our young players, who have also not been paid for the same length of time as the first team players and staff at the club.

"Our own supporters keep telling us that they themselves would not be turning up at work had they had to go for so long without any pay, so at least they recognise what the Gaffer has achieved in motivating the players and staff to still be here, as we all fight to keep this club in the Football League.

"A number of the youth team players have already been told that they will not be part of Boston United next season, but now given our lack of players, the Gaffer has had no option but to tell some of them this morning that they will now be travelling to Wrexham on Saturday and it looks like some of them will have to be thrown in at the deep end. We all know it is a nightmare situation to deal with, especially given the importance of Saturday's match, but we go there with a chance, because that is what football is all about. Sometimes the biggest underdogs do achieve and why not us?

"We expect to have the lads back in for training later in the week and at least we can have a 'four-a-side' as we prepare for the biggest game in the club's history. That sounds funny when you say it quickly, but I am afraid it is the reality of the situation here. Wrexham will start long odds-on favourites and no-one around the country will give us any chance of being in the Football League come 5.00pm on Saturday, so we will have to produce an outstanding team performance to prove them wrong.

"Thankfully those people working within the game are aware of the fantastic job that we have done in taking our survival ambitions to the last Saturday of the season.
