Walsall this morning confirmed that they have signed the former Newcastle United trainee Martin Brittain on a short-term contract.

Brittain has signed for the Saddlers after being released by Carlisle United. He also had a trial at Scunthorpe United earlier in the season. He is described as a right-winger.

Brittain left Newcastle after turning down a contract offer and went on to play for Ipswich Town, as well as a short spell on loan for Yeovil Town. He was signed for Carlisle United by their former manager Neil Mackenzie, but told he had no future at the club after Mackenzie was sacked following their draw with the Saddlers at the Banks's Stadium.

Brittain will go straight into tomorrows FA Cup line up for the match against Millwall.
