Rochdale moved themselves out of the bottom two in League Two with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over high flying MK Dons with no fewer than four debutants impressing for their new employers.
From the first whistle to last Rochdale simply ran the Dons ragged and striker Adam Le Fondre could have marked his home debut with a hat-trick inside the first six minutes.
He did open the scoring with a smart left-footed finish after just five minutes and either side of that he was denied by visiting keeper Lee Harper and then the woodwork.
On 10 minutes the home side doubled their advantage when, following a free kick, defender Simon Ramsden rifled home from 10 yards.
It soon became three when, on 15 minutes, midfielder John Doolan provided a perfect cross that was knocked home at the far post by another new boy, Rory Prendergast.
Dons' manager Martin Allen, clearly livid with his side's performance, made three changes at the break but they made no difference as the home side continued to dominate and soon added to their lead.
Substitute David Perkins, making his first start after joining from Morecambe, raced 40 yards with the ball before feeding Doolan whose cross was turned home by Le Fondre.
Le Fondre might have had a hat-trick but for a scrambled save from Harper. But more was yet to come as, on 84 minutes, yet another new boy, Reuben Reid, set up teenager Kelvin Etuhu who raced away before calmly slotting the ball past Harper.
The win lifted Rochdale five places up the division and gave rookie boss Keith Hill a third win in six games. |
