Walsall travel to the Priestfield Stadium (or in new money, the KRBS Priestfield)
searching for a vital win if they are to stave of the threat of falling into the dropzone
pretty soon after being without a win in their last five games. Saddlers may be 12th
in the table but being just five points away from the bottom four is a worry for boss
Chris Hutchings who has urged his men to go for the jugular and attack from the
start. Darren Byfield will be looking forward to his return to the club where he scored
19 goals for the Kent club between 2004 and 2006. Daz has been playing well but
not finding the net lately and will be keen to put one over his former club whose fans
are bound to give him a hard time.
Gillingham's home form is pretty good with seven victories so far and they have the
best defensive home league record than any club in the division having conceded
just seven goals. Its their chronic away form which has let them down badly-they
haven't won a game on their travels so this finds them in 19th position in League
One so they are desperate for the three points themselves.
Chris Hutchings is without the services of captain Mark Hughes who is struggling
with a virus. There is also a doubt about Dwayne Mattis who has a calf problem.
The unlucky Steve Jones will continue to be sidelined too. Hutchings will have
one selection problem- does he continue with Clayton Ince in goal or turn to Rene
Gilmartin. Big Clayt was not at his best on Tuesday and many fans are hoping
for a return for the young keeper.
Gillingham boss Mark Stimpson has doubts over Josh Cowling but Curtis Weston
and Danny Jackman may return. The Gills may continue with former Saddler
Chris Palmer in their line up as they look to climb the table. It could be a close
game and a tense affair with both sides needing the win.
